Fsa wing pro compact vs.3t ergonova4/1/2023 ![]() ![]() The aluminum Ergonova Pro is a universally-loved bar combining strength, reliability and a supreme, fatigue-fighting comfort level due to their innovative flat-top design. However for the Ergonova the drops flair outwards, so the bar is nominally 20mm narrower at the hoods - this means a 42cm Ergonova measures 40cm at the hoods. 3T is an industry leader with good reason, and for years now have been able to claim dominance in the compact marketplace with the Ergonova line. Please note: 3T measure their handlebars center-to-center, with the bar dimension taken at the bar ends or hoods. The 31.8mm clamping section is a nice, accessory-friendly 120mm wide, and transitions comfortably to a semi-flat top. Despite coming in the bar’s widest width (44cm), our sample weighed in at 274g: 5g more than claimed for the 42 and within 40g of the brand’s 350 SL-K carbon bar. ERGONOVA PRO is built of triple-butted Al 7075 T6 and is suitable for most types of clip-on bars. The Ergonova is the same shape/drop/reach except with a standard round top, giving you flexibility with the rotation of the bar. The real attraction here, however, is the Energy bar. ERGONOVA is also available in a 38 cm width, making it ideal for smaller riders. Battle of the frames: Felt IA 10 vs IA 1 Fuji Norcom Straight. The egg shape rolls through 180 degrees at the bend into the forward extension, placing the palms naturally onto the brake hoods and ergonomic drops.ģT developed this compact new shape in close consultation with pro and leisure riders, to provide day-long comfort on the bike. The increased reach comes almost entirely from the long ramps (the fore-aft bar sections behind the levers). The top of the bar is egg-shaped in section, the longer radius provides a wider top surface for the hands. Compared to 3T’s Ergonova handlebar, the Aeronova is stretched out by almost 30mm to 104mm, but instead of forward sweeping the flattened tops, the Aeronova’s tops extend perpendicularly from the stem. I feel a 26mm shallow drop bar, alloy, round all the way is a much better investment.ERGONOVA sets a new standard in comfort riding. I didn't get on with them very well and can see no reason why I would ever go back to an oversize wing top bar. An evolution of the Ergonova, 3T’s SuperErgo bars are all new except for the tops, which the brand says customers and sponsored. Thread: FSA Wing Pro Compact versus 3T Ergonova Pro. I used Shimano 10 speed DA levers on mine, and the fact that they are pretty long too made the bars feel even longer, the curve of the bar is very tight, it does however make a very straight transition from bar top to lever. The tops are about equal in terms of comfort to the Wing Pro, but in the drops the Ergonova is abjectly superior. One option may be to tape the bars all the way along, over the top of the wings, but you need some mucho long bar tape to do that, and IMO its too bulky. 3T offer these in each of their three lines the entry-level Pro bars reviewed here are 7075 aluminum, while the up-market Team and LTD lines are carbon fiber. FSA Wing Pro review Those who tried them for the first time found the Wing Pro flat tops considerably more pleasant to use on long hilly rides than a handlebar with a round tube. The Al bar has a much larger (fatter) wing top section than the carbon version. ![]() ![]() The FSA Wing compact is bit less popular with pre-'09 Campy hoods because of its reach but I want to try Sram Force shifters with a shorter reach handlebar which seems like a good combination as it would be with the larger hoods of Shimano which is popular with a short reach bar. These bars do not have it, only a small hollow in the underside, this means that where the tape stops, just before the wing shape starts the cables come out and in my case drove me crazy, its irritating and they always feel in the way when you ride on the tops. FSA Wing Pro Compact, 40cm c-c, aluminum: 249g FSA SLK Compact Carbon, 40cm c-c, 205g For comparison: DEDA Supernatural, 40cm c-c: 248g Bontrager VR XXXlite carbon, 40cm c-c: 191g Both FSA Compact bars share the same similiar shape, but, there are some differences. The FSA Wing Pro Compact is quite popular on here for those reasons but there is another similar bar with a slightly different transistion to the hoods which is compelling.the 3T Ergonova. ![]() Many of the wing top bars have a cable routing tube, either in the handle bar or running along the underneath of the wing top, this guides the cables to the point where they would exit under the bar tape on a normal round bar. ![]()
